Debarking is the process of removing the outer bark from timber or logs, primarily to improve wood quality, prevent pest infestation, and remove contaminants before processing into lumber or pulp. It accelerates drying, protects against fungi, and allows for cleaner, more efficient industrial processing.
It is achieved by Drum Debarkers, wherein logs tumble in a large, rotating cylinder, using friction to remove bark; by Ring,Rotor Debarkers, wherein a tool rotates around a single log, peeling the bark off; by Hydraulic Debarkers wherein, High-pressure water jets strip the bark.
Debarking is necessary to remove the bark from the wood, which may contain harmful substances, microorganisms and fungi. This improves the quality and safety of the finished product, increases its shelf life and resistance to external influences.
